It was October 1997 when I heard for the first time the existence of the Bible code. However, despite the long period since then, I still remember the surprise that made me know that the Bible could keep secrets hidden in the bowels of its verses. An article in the press spoke of a book that had become a real best seller, with over half a million copies sold worldwide. The book claimed that the Bible contained encrypted messages from prophetic character.
The author was an American journalist who had studied the subject for several years. The conclusions reached were amazing: the Bible contained a mathematical code introduced by the author thereof (presumably God). Some mathematical Israelites had managed to decipher the code. As an example he mentioned, the author claimed to have known earlier death of Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. All efforts to warn the political threat that proved futile, even sent a letter informing him of the situation: "The original text of the Bible contains a subtext where the word is linked with the phrase Yitzhak Rabin murderer who would kill ".
A year later, on November 4, 1995 Yitzhak Rabin was murdered by someone who believed sent by God. Also the news release announcing the book prophesied that towards the year 2006 envisaged a world war and nuclear holocaust.
Those days were occupied in completing a manuscript in which he described the last hours of the writer's life Hilari Roura, disappeared some years ago in tragic circumstances, of which without trying I witnessed.
For this reason, perhaps, I forgot almost entirely the affair of the Bible code until a few days later I came across the book in a bookstore downtown Tarragona Rambla Nova. I could not resist tempted to buy it.
I got home mid-afternoon. The day was drawing to a close, a faint mist covered everything and a translucent veil the mountains on the horizon blurred. After turning on the fireplace with some old logs - the weather was not very cold, but wet - and sit comfortably in an old chair, I started reading the book avidly. Only I took a break to eat some cheese.
At midnight had ended with the feverish task. I must confess that the reading was very shallow (almost diagonal), stopping only where thought appropriate to focus my interest. The priority was to find out what it was the course code.
The book left me confused. I could think of several questions: Was there really the Bible code? The affirmative answer I posed another question: why had not been discovered before? I then memory for the sequence of events described by Drosnin in his book.

Fue en octubre de 1997 cuando tuve noticias por vez primera de la existencia del código de la Biblia. Sin embargo, a pesar del largo tiempo transcurrido desde entonces, aún recuerdo la sorpresa que me produjo saber que la Biblia pudiese guardar secretos ocultos en las entrañas de sus versículos. Un artículo aparecido en la prensa hablaba de un libro que se había convertido en un verdadero best seller, con más de medio millón de ejemplares vendidos en todo el mundo. En el libro se aseguraba que la Biblia contenía mensajes encriptados de carácter profético.
El autor era un periodista americano que había estudiado el tema durante varios años. Las conclusiones a que había llegado eran increíbles: la Biblia contenía un código matemático introducido por el autor de la misma (supuestamente Dios). Unos matemáticos israelitas habían logrado descifrar el código. Como ejemplo de lo comentado, el autor aseguraba haber conocido con antelación la muerte del primer ministro israelí Ytzhak Rabín. Todos los esfuerzos para advertir al político de tal amenaza resultaron inútiles; incluso le envió una carta en la que se le informaba de la situación: " El texto original de la Biblia contiene un subtexto donde se liga la palabra Ytzhak Rabín con la frase asesino que asesinará".
Un año después, el 4 de noviembre de 1995 Ytzhak Rabín era asesinado por alguien que se creía enviado por Dios. También anunciaba la noticia de prensa que el libro profetizaba que hacia el año 2006 se preveía una Guerra Mundial y un holocausto atómico.
Aquellos días estaba ocupada en la finalización de un manuscrito en el que describía las últimas horas de la vida del escritor Hilari Roura, desaparecido unos años atrás en trágicas circunstancias, de las que sin proponérmelo fui testigo presencial.
Por este motivo, quizás, me olvidé casi por completo del asunto del código de la Biblia hasta que unos días más tarde me topé con el libro en una céntrica librería de la Rambla Nova de Tarragona. No pude resistir la tentación de comprarlo.
Llegué a mi casa a media tarde. El día estaba tocando a su fin; una tenue neblina lo cubría todo y un velo traslúcido emborronaba las montañas del horizonte. Tras encender la chimenea con unos viejos leños— el tiempo no era muy frío, pero sí húmedo — y sentarme cómodamente en una vieja butaca, empecé a leer ávidamente el libro. Únicamente me tomé un respiro para comer un poco de queso.
A media noche había terminado con la febril tarea. He de confesar que la lectura fue muy superficial (prácticamente en diagonal), deteniéndome dónde únicamente creía oportuno centrar mi interés. Lo prioritario era averiguar en qué consistía el supuesto código.
El libro me dejó confusa. Se me ocurrían varias preguntas: ¿Existía realmente el código bíblico? La respuesta afirmativa me planteaba a otra incógnita: ¿por qué no se había descubierto antes? A continuación hice memoria para recordar la secuencia de acontecimientos relatados por Drosnin en su libro.
